Brownells 10/22 extended magazine release

I recently posted a YouTube review of the Brownells 10/22 extended magazine release.

You can find that video here:

This is a follow up to that video if you prefer reading over watching.  When I originally went looking for an extended magazine release for my Ruger 10/22's I was met with the commonly seen selection from Ruger, Tandemkross, and Tactical Solutions and many others.  All of the aforementioned choices were not bad, but none really offered what I was looking for.  I continued my search and located the Brownells extended magazine release.  Brownells had a picture of the part but no pictures of it installed on a 10/22. I searched the internet and at the time, could not locate a single review or video of the magazine release.  I thought "Brownells products are always top notch so why not give it a shot?!" and boy am I glad I did.  For a price falling below $10 this part is a no brainer upgrade.

In the picture above, I am pushing the release away from the trigger guard so you can get a clear view of the Brownells logo and how it operates.  The paddles extend past the trigger guard and allow for easy operation for both the right and left hand.  I found the positioning to be perfect for my trigger finger to release the magazine without moving my "strong hand" from the grip of the receiver. I also like how the release lever is curved which makes it a comfortable and intuitive place to rest your finger.
When not pressed forward the magazine release fits perfectly flush to the 10/22 trigger guard and makes for a very seamless look.  The color of the plastic matches the Factory Ruger trigger guard plastic perfectly.

Installation of this part is very simple.  I guess most parts on the 10/22 are pretty simple to change.  Once you remove the receiver form the stock (one Allen bolt, and don't forget to center the safety in the middle so the receiver properly clears the stock) only one pin retains the magazine release. You don't even need to remove the two pins retaining the trigger assembly to the receiver.

I think this design is fantastic and is more ergonomic than its competitors and its price makes it an easy choice. It's such a simple design yet it feels like the 10/22 should have come from the factory this way.

If Brownells reads this, my only recommendation to them is to try and also produce a premium version in aluminum or even a nicer version in titanium! Or can you imagine if they could make this part out of a black carbon fiber?! I would drop at least a $100 on a carbon fiber version of this magazine release!

I hope you will love this product as much as I do! Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below! Maybe you also have a suggestion for Brownells!
